I love visiting all of the parks that have access to the Scioto River - and fortunately, I have a great excuse to visit frequently to check on our Riverboxes. To me, there's nothing like that feeling of walking through Kiwanis Riverway Park. I feel like I've been transported far away from the suburbs - if only for a short respite. Like a mini-vacation without leaving town!

My favorite is the Dublin Kiwanis Riverway Park. It's hidden away near the Scioto River behind the Quarry development. The boardwalk trail takes you through riparian habitats. Beautiful! Good birding too! There are a couple of photos I took last May on the main photo slideshow.

My personal fav is Donegal Cliffs because it has some nice amenities, but also the trail portion goes down to the river and old quarry.

We very much like Glacier Ridge for birding, but for a picnic we're partial to Indian Run Falls.

My daughter likes the playgrounds at Coffman and Scioto parks. She also loves that she can see ducks swimming in the creek at Coffman Park and watch geese on the river at Scioto Park.

    Dublin history lesson

Peter and Benjamin Sells came to the area around 1801 from Huntington County, Pa., to buy land. Old Dublin was first platted in 1810 by their brother, John. Surveyor John Shields named the town after his birthplace in Ireland. The town developed the usual assortment of mills, shops and churches, with settlers coexisting peacefully with Wyandot Indians, who camped on Indian Run. The town gained notoriety in the mid-19th century, when a surplus of taverns and rowdy Civil War veterans gave the village a tough reputation. Columbus' growth and the construction of I-270 made expansion inevitable. Dublin achieved city status in 1987.
