It's hard to believe that it's been eight years since 9/11. I was the night supervisor at the Columbus AP bureau at that time and had worked until 1:30 a.m. the night before, so I was asleep when the attacks happened. About 9 a.m. I got three phon...

Christine, you're right....I haven't done anything about inviting folks to join this online community! I should.....I'm just too busy thinking about the Welcome Warehouse Board Orientation Retreat on Sunday! Our LD Red Carpet Team is facilitating that! Hey, do you want to come to that? You're welcome to!! Its from 2 to 6 pm. and we'll be concluding with a recognition ceremony with Mayor Marilee to present awards for 5 past donors and contributors. Let me know if you're free! There's a reception following the ceremony at 6 with wine and appetizers. Please do join us, if you're able to!

September 11-A Day of Service

Our thanks to Qwest corporate volunteers who are giving a day of service to Dublin on Friday, September 11, 2009 in Coffman Park. Volunteers will work to ready to the park for the autumn season, continuing our ongoing work of ridding the park of invasives, clearing brush and debris, clearing the stream, and planting fall colors. September 11 is becoming a "National Day of Service" around the country, with folks choosing to give to others or a cause and come together just to do something outside… Continue

Buddy Up for a Senior

As you know, our senior population is growing in Dublin. More and more seniors are moving here to enjoy our incredible community amenities. Our Senior Services program and Volunteer Services program have joined forces for a "Senior Buddy Program." Started about a year ago, it pairs up an adult with a senior citizen who is a few years away from being able to live independently, and is in need of a weekly check in, a ride to the doctor or pharmacy every now and then, and most importantly-a buddy.… Continue

LEADERSHIP DUBLIN ACCEPTING APPS FOR 2009-2010 CLASS!

Hey all...when is the last time you checked out Leadership Dublin's web site at www.leadershipdublin.org? Leadership Dublin is accepting applications (deadline fast approaching) for its 2010 Class. University Relations?

I'll soon be attending a "Town-Gown" meeting, discussing how cities and college students can work together on service, collaborative initiatives and partnership-building through community service. While we have participated with many university communities on various levels...what are your ideas? How would you like to see us, from a service-learning or community service perspective, engage with our surrounding university community members?

Dublin's Stellar Community Effort Kicked off a Rockin' Earth Week!

Thanks to the efforts of Rich Brown's volunteer leadership and the planning of a talented City Horticulture team, 350 volunteers worked in eight Dublin parks on Saturday, April 18th to plant 1,600 plants, remove approximately FIVE TONS of invasive bushes of honeysuckle, vine and others, and most importantly...made a huge impact on the health of our natural spaces throughout Dublin. Thank you, Dublin, for your remarkable volunteer effort!

    Dublin history lesson

Peter and Benjamin Sells came to the area around 1801 from Huntington County, Pa., to buy land. Old Dublin was first platted in 1810 by their brother, John. Surveyor John Shields named the town after his birthplace in Ireland. The town developed the usual assortment of mills, shops and churches, with settlers coexisting peacefully with Wyandot Indians, who camped on Indian Run. The town gained notoriety in the mid-19th century, when a surplus of taverns and rowdy Civil War veterans gave the village a tough reputation. Columbus' growth and the construction of I-270 made expansion inevitable. Dublin achieved city status in 1987.
