Eric, I'm not sure who was promoting the event. But you heard right.

Hey Jennifer, do you know who was directly responsible for promoting this event? I heard NO ONE attended, and with all the issues we face with our children in school, it's sad to hear we're not actively participating in these type of things.

I'm not into extreme eating myself (if that's what it's called) but I've got to admit I dig Man Vs. Food on the Travel Channel. I was recently told about a coney eating contest going on at the Skyline at 7668 Sawmill Parkway in Dublin, so I decide...

Top 10 Sandwich List

I'm not sure everyone saw it, but I wanted to point out the fact that two Historic Dublin restaurants made the top 10 sandwich list recently penned by our food critic. Dublin Village Tavern's grilled bologna sandwich and Mr. Biddies roast beef sandwich from Biddies. I've been to the Dublin Village Tavern, but never tried the grilled bologna. I've never been to Biddies, but after… Continue

Poker Tournament for Willow Ridge

I didn't get the info to get the first tournament into the paper in time, but I did want to let people know about a charitable poker festival Friday and Saturday, July 24 and 25, at Eli Pinney Elementary School, 9989 Concord Road. Registration is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and play starts at 7:30.
There is a $40 buy-in, with no chance to buy in after you go out. The buy-in will get you $2,000 in chips and all players must be 18 or older.

Eating contest

I'm not into extreme eating myself (if that's what it's called) but I've got to admit I dig Man Vs. Food on the Travel Channel. I was recently told about a coney eating contest going on at the Skyline at 7668 Sawmill Parkway in Dublin, so I decided I'd try to help get the word out.

In order to raise money for the KcKendree United Methodist food bank, Scott Redwine, the Sawmill Skyline owner, is hosting a coney eating contest at 11 a.m. March 14. There's a $20 entry fee and half goes to the food… Continue

    Dublin history lesson

Peter and Benjamin Sells came to the area around 1801 from Huntington County, Pa., to buy land. Old Dublin was first platted in 1810 by their brother, John. Surveyor John Shields named the town after his birthplace in Ireland. The town developed the usual assortment of mills, shops and churches, with settlers coexisting peacefully with Wyandot Indians, who camped on Indian Run. The town gained notoriety in the mid-19th century, when a surplus of taverns and rowdy Civil War veterans gave the village a tough reputation. Columbus' growth and the construction of I-270 made expansion inevitable. Dublin achieved city status in 1987.
