This could be the first step to major redevelopment in the Bridge Street Corridor.

A Stavroff Land and Development affiliate recently purchased the Dublin Village Center.
According to an announcement by Stavroff, Whittingham Capital, LLC, purchased the Dublin Village Center for $4.7-million from DDR Continental L.P.

You might be aware that the Dublin AM Rotary sponsored a Veterans Flight to Washington, D.C., on Sunday, Nov. 1. Rotary members who also are pilots donated their planes to fly seven veterans to D.C. to visit veterans memorials. ThisWeek photographer Lorrie Cecil made the trip as well and got great pictures for the Dublin Villager (front page and inside photo page) and a multimedia presentation on ThisWeekNews.com. I'm pasting a link to our video player below. To watch Lorrie's presentation, clic…

Who doesn't like to eat fresh produce? The Dublin Farmers Market is about to arrive at Dublin Community Church, 81 W. Bridge St. TehKu Tea Company owner Inggrie Merriman, who has been trying to establish a farmers market in Dublin for two years, said: "We want a variety of dairy, honey, fresh produce. We're trying to get baked goods and meat. We want to try to get a good variety so people can do their shopping mid-week at the farmers market." Sounds good to me, except for the dairy (lactose into…

I had a nice conversation the other day with Dublin Relay For Life organizer Stephanie Reed and she mentioned that the American Cancer Society needs more donations than ever, because more people than ever before are asking for help. Lots of cancer sufferers are losing their jobs and health insurance because of the economy, and they're turning to the American Cancer Society for help. We tried to do our part at the Dublin Villager to help out by writing stories in the three weeks leading up to Rel…

It looks like Dublin gave a fitting Memorial Day tribute to veterans with the Grounds of Remembrance dedication. I want to share our
Dublin Villager coverage of the event, including Jen Noblit's stories and photos taken by Anthony DeYoung, Lorrie Cecil and Stefanie Hauck.

The city of Dublin is formulating its plans for next year's bicentennial celebration, thus the staff of the
Dublin Villager already is thinking about how we'll cover the milestone birthday. We've got several ideas brewing, but we're also open to suggestions. If you have an idea for our bicentennial coverage, please leave a comment on this blog or e-mail me at aresnik@thisweeknews.com.

You'll see from the top of our homepage that we've partnered with three Dublin businesses for a contest that we hope will increase membership and participation. Many of you have been very active on the site, and we appreciate your efforts, but we also want to try to engage more community members. I'll be writing a column for next week's Dublin Villager, asking Dublin-area residents to consider signing up and becoming part of the conversation.
When we started YourDublin in October, most of the c…

Now that the Browns have failed to trade for Jay Cutler, I hope that they'll deal Derek Anderson and commit to Brady Quinn at quarterback. The fact that Brady grew up in Dublin has nothing to do with my opinion. I've seen enough of Anderson to know that he's got a $5-million arm and a 5-cent head. Brady has a presence about him. The few times he started for the Browns last season it seemed like he was in charge in the huddle. The Browns will never win consistently until they settle this quarterb…

This is a great night for basketball in Cleveland, which is a hard thing to believe considering the Cavs are laying an egg right now against the lowly LA Clippers. For the first time since 1986, the Cleveland State Vikings are headed to the NCAA tournament. They pulled a major upset to get there, beating Butler in the Horizon League tournament championship game on Butler's home floor. The '86 Vikings, led by Ken "Mouse" McFadden, beat Indiana and Saint Joseph's in the first two rounds of the tou…

If I were a kid growing up in Dublin, I'd have to be thinking about becoming a doctor, nurse, X-ray technician, scientist or any other career that's tied to the medical or research industries. I started thinking about that this week when another newspaper, the Rocky Mountain News, folded. The consolidation of media is making it impossible for many papers to survive. It's kind of scary for me, considering I have spent the last 12 years in the newspaper industry. While newspapers go under, Columbu…

I just finished reading an interesting new biography called "Paul Brown, The Rise and Fall and Rise Again of Football's Most Innovative Coach," by Andrew O'Toole. The book provides great insight into Brown's career and personal life. I thought it gave a very fair account of Brown's life, detailing all of his accomplishments as a head coach and owner of the Bengals while also pointing out that he often was a victim of his own ego. I didn't know that a lot of his players (with the Browns and the B…

Officials in Dublin always seem to be looking for ways to improve the city, so it's no surprise that attention is now being turned to improving our view of the Scioto River in Historic Dublin. We'll be seeing more changes soon with the completion of the Grounds of Remembrance and BriHi Square, and just when you think there's nothing more that can be done, another idea surfaces. I think this is why other communities around central Ohio envy Dublin, because plans are constantly in motion to improv…

I may have to revise my earlier prediction that the Cavs are going to win the NBA championship. I've now watched the Lakers beat both the Cavs and Celtics twice this season and I'll have to admit that L.A. looks unstoppable. When the Cavs played at L.A. and got blown out, I figured a lot of it had to do with the fact that Big Z was hurt, but I can offer no such excuses today. The Cavs, as presently constructed, can't beat the Lakers in a seven-game series.
Here's what upset me today:
-- The Cav…

Tickets for the July 14 Billy Joel-Elton John concert at Nationwide Arena went on sale at 10 this morning, and I made sure I was ready to buy a couple online. I even left my credit card at the computer last night to save time this morning. Within minutes after the sale started I purchased two tickets in the lower bowl, and apparently it was a good thing I acted fast. At 10:45 I logged back onto ticketmaster.com just to see what was left, and I was directed to the page where people were reselling…

This really enforces just how much I hate the Pittsburgh Steelers. I respect what they've accomplished, but I also despise them. Most of it is jealousy, because the team I root for, the Browns, is totally inept and always will be. However, what really sickens me now is that players I used to root for when they played in college are helping the Steelers win Super Bowls. Like Ben Roethlisberger, I attended Miami University, and I root for Ohio State, where Super Bowl hero Santonio Holmes played in…
