So part of my duties as president of the Historic Dublin Business Association is to coordinate the events that happen within the district. Events have always been something I enjoy doing and I even received a degree in Entertainment Business & Law from
Full Sail University in Orlando, FL.
I've always been captivated by the creative process that goes into making a song, video, or painting, so i began shooting documentaries about 4 yrs ago. Since i've been back in Columbus I've let most of my entertainment ambitions fall to side due to the slow developing market for it here in the area. I picked up web design and marketing instead (which was a program at Full Sail, and i might be able to justify that loan a little better at this particular point!), but i've kept my roots in entertainment and events by volunteering with the
HDBA.
This year for our
Slainte! A BriHi Thursday activities i wanted to bring
more focus on local music and live performance, so i began developing a plan last October, that needed quite a few revisions to get to where we are now. We've basically developed an 'artist launch' program where we:
-
Audition musical talent each month and choose three performers we feel are good fits for Historic Dublin
-
Give them a free photo shoot, courtesy of
Schade Photography
-
Take them into the studio with well established Producer
Felix Weber to record a professional demo
-
Showcase them on the Third Thursday of each given month, to compete for YOUR votes, in order to win
air time on the radio with CD101.
One last piece i'm putting into the puzzle, is documenting this process, from the audition to the studio session, in order to give people the opportunity to see what goes into making and marketing an independent musician. You can relate to their struggles, attach to their message and invest your time into understanding their purpose.
We've come across some amazing young talent located here, in and around Columbus, OH and I highly encourage to come
support these local musicians as they perform on
June 18th, here in Historic Dublin's
BriHi District.
